Our Profile

Bharati College, one of the top women’s college in West Delhi, is a constituent college of the University of Delhi. It is located in a serene and scenic campus and caters to about approx 3500 students, offering instruction in eleven disciplines in the Arts and Social Sciences. The students can opt for Honours courses in 8 of them.

The College also offers a Master’s course in Hindi. Besides their academic commitments, students are required to participate in co-curricular activities (NSS, NCC and Sports). The College has a very active cell of the National Service Scheme as well as a very capable and enthusiastic wing of the National Cadet Corps. The NSS works with physically and visually challenged students, inmates of the Tihar Jail, as support staff for the nearby Deen Dayal Hospital and with many other agencies. The NCC parade takes place on Thursday afternoons and on Saturdays. Many of our NCC cadets go on to sit for the ‘C’ and ‘B’ certificates, making them eligible for employment in the army and other wings of the government.

In sports, the College has extensive fields with a state-of-the art basketball court, a volleyball court, kho-kho and throw ball fields and a fully developed cricket ground. Any student interested in sports is welcome to join the various teams, even if she has not been admitted on the sports quota.

The College offers a number of avenues for personality development and nurturing of talent through extra-curricular activities in theatre, dance and music as well as debates, literary and cultural activities and departmental societies. Chilman-The dramatic society, Chintan-The Debating Society, Manthan-The Nukkad Natak Society, The Eco-Club and The Gandhi Study Circle all motivate students to be actively involved with their environment and the world around them.

The College also offers a number of facilities to its students, amongst them a fully digitized library, three computer labs with more than a hundred computers with broadband connections as well as access to a number of portals under the UGC-Infonet E-journal Consortium, a seminar hall, a committee room as well as a studio theatre. We are also equipped with a photostat and phone booth, a large canteen and an extension counter of the Punjab National Bank in the college premises. There is a fully equipped medical room, manned by a medical doctor, as well as a counselling centre in the college premises for those who need psychodynamic counselling.

The College also offers part-time, self-financing courses in foreign languages (French, German and Russian) as well as computer courses to prepare the students for the job- related training. These courses run in the afternoons after the regular classes are over, or in the early mornings, before regular classes begin, and are manned by highly trained personnel who place great emphasis on practical training and hands-on instructions.
