The basis of existence is in vibration, which is sound. Indian Classical Music is not viewed as entertainment. It is a device for the spiritual process; helping a person evolve into higher dimensions of perception, experience, and evolution from within.
The Department of Music, Bharati College, was established in the year 1996. The main objective of the department is to promote Indian classical music among the youth and help them understand the great beauty and culture it possesses.
The department offers music as a subject in BA program along with three other subjects. Students from different streams can opt for this subject. It is also taught as a Skill Enhancement Course for the students of B.A Program in 2nd and 3rd Year. For students of Honours courses in other subjects, music is taught as a Generic Elective subject which students who are interested in Music can opt for.
Music students can go for Masters in Music after graduation. Students who opt for it as a Generic Elective (GE) can also be eligible for Masters if they complete four semesters of GE Music. Students can go for research work and can become performing artists, Program Executive Officers in different Govt. sectors (AIR, Doordarshan), Event Managers. Teaching is a rewarding profession and students, right after graduation, can go for school teaching. If they pursue higher research they can apply for College and University positions.
The mission of the Department is to spread the traditional culture of classical music to the students who can in turn, expand the growth of this wonderful art form of India. Our vision is not limited to India, but is rather focused on a global recognition and participation in Indian Classical Music. Music is also important for mental health and has time and again proved to be a calming therapy for people dealing with stress and other mental health concerns.
The Music Society promotes music teaching and learning, musical creativity and expression, research and dialogue, diversity and interdisciplinary interaction. The Society provides leadership and serves as an agent of change by addressing concerns facing music in higher education. There are three elected student office bearers: President, Secretary and Treasurer.
