B.Sc Hons Mathematics

After completion of Honours Course in Mathematics, a student will be able to:

• Solve complex problems by critical understanding, analysis and synthesis.
• Select, interpret and critically evaluate information from a range of sources that includes books, journals etc.
• Demonstrate engagement with current research and development in the subject.
• Will be able to read and understand mathematical proofs, learn and apply new mathematical concepts.
• Can construct, communicate correct and rigorous argument of their own.

The degree in Mathematics is the culmination of in-depth knowledge of Algebra, Calculus, Geometry and several other branches of Mathematics. It also leads to study of related areas like computer science and statistics. It helps learners in building a solid foundation for higher studies in Mathematics. One also gets proficient in logical and analytical reasoning, which in turn, can be utilised in modelling and solving real life problems. Students completing this programme will be able to present mathematics clearly and precisely, make vague ideas precise by formulating them in the language of Mathematics. The programme will also help students to enhance their employability in various public and private enterprises.

On Completion of this course, the students will have knowledge and understanding of:

• Core areas of pure mathematics including geometry, algebra, mathematical analysis and discrete mathematics etc.
• Several specialised areas of advance Maths and its applications
• Correct use of Mathematical language to express both theoretical and logical arguments.
• Usage of computers both as an aid and as a tool to study problems in Mathematics.
• Applications of mathematics in other disciplines and in the real-world, leading to enhancement of career prospects in a plethora of fields and research.
• Mathematical ideas from basic axioms and gauge the hypothesis, theories, techniques and proofs provisionally.
• Utilize mathematics to solve theoretical and applied problems by critical understanding, analysis and synthesis.
