Introduction

Ideally phulkari means the shape of flowers that symbolized life. Made up of two words “PHUL” and “AKARI” that means flower and shape respectively. The birth of a girl child in a Punjab family is considered as auspicious. They are treated as the princess of the family and the creators of future generations. Out of love and happiness on the birth of a girl child, the mother and grandmothers would start embroidering beautiful and attractive Phulkari Dupattas for her. Punjabi department of college has touched new heights in the academic session of 2017-2018. Besides academics students belonging to department have first time participated in different literary as well as cultural functions organized by different colleges of University of Delhi. Department of Punjabi launched its Punjabi cultural society ‘Kudiyan Di Phulkari’ It was launched with the recitation of Gurbani Shabad by our own students. Under its banner college Giddha team was trained which performed at the college annual festival ‘Abhivyakti-2018’ and won the appreciation of all the spectators. since our college is situated in the area dominated by Punjabi populace our society is aiming to infuse Punjabi culture values to the students with training in Punjabi Folk Dances like Bhangra, Gidda, Sammi, etc and folk as well as light music.

In addition the students are prepare to compete in Poetry, Painting, Declamation, Debate, Gurbani Shabad, Folk Singing etc organized by different colleges of University of Delhi. Our aim is to prepare students for competition in the life to come with additional benefits of being connected with their heritage.

YEAR 2024
  1. Harpreet won 3rd position in Dance competition held at Bharati College on 25 August 2023.
  2. Amisha won 2nd position in Inter college solo-singing competition held at Aditi Mahavidyalaya on 13 October 2023.
  3. Our students Archana and Puru won 1st prize in Inter College Singing competition held HIMT Group of Institutions, Greater Noida on 28th February 2024.
  4. Nisha and Sweta Shakya won 2nd position in Inter College Folk Dance competition held at Maitreyi College, University of Delhi, on 12th March 2024.
  5. Our student Parvi Khurana won 2nd position in Inter College Folk Singing competition held at SGND Khalsa College, University of Delhi, on 12th March 2024.
  6. Simran Kaur won 3rd prize in Inter college Folk Dance competition held at Bharati College, University of Delhi, on 21st March 2024.
  7. One of our student Akansha won second prize in Inter college Photography competition held at Bharati College, University of Delhi, on 15th April 2024.
Department of Punjabi Report (August 2023- July 2024)

Department Teacher- Dr. Shalu Kaur

  1. One glorious achievement for us is our Punjabi Department student Ms. Komal Bakshi becomes Bharati College Students Union President for the year 2022-2023.
  2. Our department student Ms. Ekta elected as Bharati College Student Union Secretary on 13th October 2023.
  3. On 29th November 2023 department organized a lecture on ‘Women empowerment and consciousness in Guru Nanak Bani’ by Prof. Beant Kaur, SGND Khalsa college, University of Delhi..
YEAR 2023
  1. Ankita Vashishth won 2nd prize in Poetry competition held at S.G.N.D Khalsa College.
  2. Komal Bakshi won 2nd prize in inter college online poster making competition held at Maitreyi College.
  3. Palak won 2nd prize in Folk song competition held at S.G.N.D Khalsa College.
  4. Harman Kaur and Komal Bakshi won 1st prize in Rangoli making competition held at Bharati College.
  5. Ekta won 1st position in Poster/Model presentation on World Environmental Day.
YEAR 2019
  1. Ms. Priyanka and Ms. Khushvinder kaur got 1st prize in Folk dance competition and Ms. Shagun sharma in Direct talk competition held at Sri Guru Nanak Dev khalsa college.
  2. Ms. Shagun Sharma and Ms. Poonam got 2nd prize in Guru Nanak paper reading competition held at Ramanujan college.
  3. Our Punjabi dance team bagged 1st position at Satyawati college (eve).
  4. Two of our students namely Ms. Ritu Arora and Ms. Bhawana Arora got 2nd position in dance competition at Guru Gobind Singh college of commerce.
YEAR 2018
  1. Achievements of the department can be adjudged from the facts that its students name Ms. Prabhleen kaur and Ms. Shagun Sharma participated in poetry recitation competition organized by Sri Guru Nanak Dev khalsa college, Dev nagar, Delhi and won the 2nd prize where more than a dozen colleges of University of Delhi participated.
  2. Prabhleen kaur and Shagun Sharma both won the laurels for the college when they won the 3rd prize in Quiz competition at Sri Guru Gobind singh college of commerce, Pitam pura, Delhi.
  3. Our student Ms. Ritu Arora took the flag of the college at highest level winning the 1st prize in poetry recitation competition at Sri Guru Nanak Dev khalsa college, Dev nagar, Delhi.
  4. Department’s students Ms. Tashi Sharma and Ms. Bhawna Arora got special prize in folk singing at the same college.
