The Department of Political Science became functional from the year 1971, It offers an undergraduate three year Honours course and a generic elective to other Honours courses as well as courses at the integrated BA (Programme) level. The department has a diverse faculty whose specializations spread across various field of political science.
The course offers a set of skills with an excellent preparation for Public Policy, International Relations, Public Affairs and Public Consultancy. Value addition to the courses is also done through workshops, invited talks and conferences, which are used as a method to address important political issues.
The Department prepares students for a wide range of career options for Government as well as Non-Government Organizations. It provides students scope of pursuing research work in various contemporary topics. Students who plan to study further or go in the direction of research. opt for this course in large numbers. Political science provides an opportunity to the students to inculcate their analyzing ability and develops assessment skills.
The Department firmly believes in a holistic education and constantly strive to achieve this. The department Members of faculty use innovative teaching methods to make learning experimental.
‘LOKSAMVAD’ The departmental society of political science, organizes vide range of events based on student and faculty interest. It comprises a Union in which an elected President, Vice president, secretary, treasurer and representatives of all three years work together for the smooth regulation of department in all co- curricular areas too. The Union organizes all the departmental events and is especially responsible for the department’s annual fest POLIS. Apart from this the department organizes trips and visits to places of historical and political importance.
