BA Hons Journalism

The Department of Journalism, Bharati College offers a B.A. Hons course to undergraduate students and is committed to providing undergraduate students with quality education in the communication and journalism disciplines that is contemporary, relevant and practical. Ever since its inception, the journalism programme has aimed to provide pragmatic learning where theory and practice meet the social and professional needs of students. The department’s goal is that students who graduate in journalism should be prepared for entry-level positions as professionals within journalism as well as different mass communication related fields.

The Department of Journalism has provided practical training to students through workshops, seminars, and classroom activities. Over the years, workshops on Film Making, Photography, Radio Jockeying, Newspaper Designing, etc have been organised with the help of industry stalwarts. In addition, the students have produced short films, printed college newspapers, created audio features and photo essays with the support of teachers. The students have also researched on various topics for classroom presentations and have interned with prominent media houses like NDTV, India TV, Doordarshan, etc.

  • Through the B.A. Hons Journalism course, the students will be able to:
  • Gather, analyse and create journalistic content on contemporary issues for print, broadcast and other digital media outlets.
  • Produce compendious and articulate work incorporating diverse groups and perspectives, on local, national and international issues.
  • Use reliable visual aids to tell news stories ethically and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Be prepared for a diverse and multi-cultural world and workplace and be conversant about contemporary media issues.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of journalism as an ethical practice.
  • Demonstrate preparation for an entry-level position in the profession through a portfolio exhibiting their work.
