The School of Open Learning (SOL), previously recognized as The School of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education, was founded under the University of Delhi in 1962. As a trailblazer in Distance Education in India, SOL primarily delivers instruction through meticulously prepared printed course materials distributed by mail to enrolled students. This is further enhanced by Personal Contact Programs (PCP), which are organized at various study centers to support students’ learning.
The PCP center at Bharati College was inaugurated in 2014, aligning with the launch of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by Delhi University and the Prime Minister of India. On 12th October 2014, the entire staff and student body took the “Swachh Bharat” pledge during the center’s inauguration.
Recognized as one of the premier PCP centers of SOL, the Bharati College center is known for its robust infrastructure and efficient administration. It provides high-quality education and amenities equivalent to those available to regular students, including well-furnished classrooms, a fully equipped computer lab, landscaped lawns, and clean washrooms. The center is capable of accommodating around 700 students and engages 30 to 40 teachers each semester. The teaching staff is dedicated, not only conducting lectures but also assisting in the preparation of a question bank for SOL students. The SOL-PCP Bharati College office operates from Room No.12 of the college building, and students can seek information about SOL-PCP on Sundays during working hours.
The PCP at Bharati College is conducted for women pursuing BA/B.Com in their first, second, and third years through SOL. Each semester begins with a brief orientation for both faculty and students, outlining the timetable and center operations. Support staff are available to help students find their classrooms, connect with their teachers, and provide any required assistance. Multi-tasking staff (MTS) are stationed on every floor to guide students as needed. Attendance is strictly monitored at the entry point and using a mobile app to maintain discipline.
The college organizes a range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to foster all-round student development. Placement drives are also arranged periodically for SOL-PCP students. Additionally, the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) was implemented from the academic session 2019-2020 at the SOL-PCP Bharati College center.
