Bharati College collaboration with Goonj NGO

Bharati College MoU with Goonj NGO to make college as Dropping Centre: The College has signed an MOU with Goonj to work as a dropping centre for college students and faculty members and for the public outside of college. An MoU was signed between both the parties to function as a dropping centre for Goonj NGO on 10th April’24.

Goonj Donation camp and awareness session: The HDFE Department under the aegis of IQAC organised a donation camp on 8th Nov.’23 at the Central Lawn of the college. The college faculty and staff donated wholeheartedly for the cause. Goonj staff has put a stall for sale of items prepared by Goonj. Later, an awareness session was also organised at the seminar hall to create awareness among students and staff regarding the various initiatives taken up by Goonj.

Goonj processing centre visit: The HDFE department under the aegis of IQAC organised a visit to Goonj Processing centre at Sarita Vihar on 20th February’2024. Goonj believes in using unused items to help communities grow and develop with respect. They want to create fair relationships between cities and villages by sharing resources and dignity equally. By using extra materials from cities to address the basic needs of those who are financially and materially poor, Goonj hopes to spread this idea to different places and involve people in finding their own solutions. They believe in valuing people's efforts, knowledge, and dignity, and providing resources as a way to reward their participation in community development. The Students witnessed how the donation given by community members in the form of household utility items can be used to make different kits such as Anganwadi kit (soft toys, shoes, aasan, stationary kit, etc.), Office kit (electronic items, blazers/trousers, basic stationary, etc.), Marriage kit (jewellery sets, bridal clothes, makeup kit, etc.), different culture kit (this kit involves clothing for different states as per the culture), School to School (bags made of oversized jean and hoodies, stationary items, shoes, Aasan, uniforms, etc.), drama kit (drama clothes to motivate and help rural people or children who don't have resources to showcase their talent and skills), school kit (includes School uniform, stationary, books, woollen clothes, etc.)

Donation drive: On 14th October’24, the HDFE Department under the aegis of IQAC hosted a seminar featuring Goonj, an NGO known for transforming urban waste into resources for rural development. The event showcased impactful initiatives like Goonj’s ‘Cloth for Work’, where villagers receive clothing in exchange for labour on local projects, and ‘Not Just a Piece of Cloth’, which creates sanitary pads from urban fabric waste. ‘Green by Goonj’ and ‘Dignity for Work’ are initiatives which further highlighted sustainability and community involvement. The seminar aimed to raise awareness about sustainable development and promote the reuse of urban waste and encourage student involvement in social initiatives. The event provided valuable insights, particularly regarding innovative waste repurposing and the importance of community rehabilitation. The strong student response demonstrated growing interest in social responsibility. Overall, the seminar effectively inspired attendees to contribute toward sustainability and community service, promoting long-term engagement in meaningful social efforts.
