Job Avenue and Market Acceptability

  • B. A. (Hons.) Journalism has a good standing in the market and students get very good responses from media houses throughout the country as well as abroad. Most of the students easily find internships, short term assignments and jobs during and after the completion of the course. Apart from that every organisation needs audio-visual publicity these days, for which they employ people having a background in journalism and media. Many students even start their own ventures and get a good response from niche audiences. In an ever-burgeoning media industry, the future of B. A. (Hons.) Journalism graduates is quite promising. It is getting more and more popular with time. This can be seen in the number of applications University of Delhi gets every year for Journalism courses. In 2019 for each seat of journalism in DU there were 367 applications and for a total of 306 seats available, 1,12,233 applications were received in total. This trend is expected to continue in near as well as long term projections.

  • There are promising career avenues for journalism graduates. Avenues such as television news studios, radio channels, newspapers, magazines, cinema, social media web portals, social and digital media marketing enterprises, advertising agencies, public relation companies are among the most creative and lucrative options. After successful completion of the course, students can pursue careers in various fields such as print and electronic media, photojournalism, advertising and public relations, media planning and event management. They can also opt for jobs in various fields of research and development such as project managers, policy planners and development communication officers. There is a constant rise in demand for trained professionals to work as corporate communicators, copywriters, editors, correspondents, news analysts, social media specialists, social advocacy organisers, policy planners etc. Therefore, there are vast career pathways in which students can step in and perform specialized roles after completing the course.

  • In the present times, the exchange of information is happening at a very fast pace. Moreover, technology has completely transformed the way information is exchanged. Over the years, the scope of journalism has increased manifold as communication channels have broadened the mediums from newspapers, radio and television sets to online news websites and social media. This rapid evolution of communication has given rise to a lot of exciting opportunities in the global market after pursuing a degree in Journalism.

  • The Department of Journalism at Bharati College provides practical training to students through workshops, seminars, and classroom activities. Over the last three years, several workshops on Film Making, Photography, Radio Jockeying, Newspaper Designing to name a few have been organised with the help of industry stalwarts. In addition, the students have produced short films, printed college newspapers, created audio features and photo essays with the support of teachers.

  • As the learning process in the department is enriched in various ways through a number of activities conducted both within and outside the department, our students regularly visit various broadcast centres like NDTV, India TV, Doordarshan, etc., which gives them a behind the scenes look at how media professionals work.

  • Internships are also an important stepping stone towards media careers and our students have found many internship opportunities. They have worked as interns in various organisations such as Doordarshan News, The New Indian Express, The Economic Times, NDTV, Zee Media, India Tv, News 18, Mayhigh Films, Dainik Jagran, The Rising Bharat, SAFAR-India, ThatMate and Xanthippe Creations.
