Every story begins with a moment, a flicker of light, a passing glance, a single frame. At Bharati College, that moment finds a home in Dastaan, the Film and Photography Society, founded in 2022 under the aegis of the Department of English. True to its Persian name, which means “story”, Dastaan is where ideas are nurtured and translated into the language of cinema and still imagery.
Dastaan aims to foster and develop the talent of filmmaking while also analysing cinema closely. The society gives the platform for new ideas of short movie/documentary productions, workshops/webinars with filmmakers, cinema critics, photowalks, and exhibitions to stem into a beautiful tree.
Dastaan, the Film and Photography Society, creates a vibrant space where creativity thrives through photography, videography, and storytelling, while celebrating art, culture and community. It is committed to nurturing imagination and giving students a platform to experiment with visual media. Beyond capturing moments, the mission is to inspire members to use their skills for meaningful storytelling that reflects both personal perspectives and collective experiences. By fostering collaboration and shared learning, Dastaan brings together individuals passionate about documenting life, heritage and creativity.
Dastaan works to foster skills in photography, videography, video editing, and content writing, equipping members with both technical expertise and creative confidence. It provides opportunities for students to showcase talent through competitions, exhibitions and collaborative projects. Heritage photowalks and event coverage help members connect with spaces and communities through their lens, linking art with cultural exploration. Film screenings are to spread social awareness and spark dialogue on important issues. Collectively, the objectives aim to strengthen artistic growth while encouraging critical engagement with culture and society.
Participation in Dastaan nurtures creative, cultural, and professional growth. Members sharpen technical skills in photography, videography, editing, and content writing while learning to use visual media for awareness and storytelling. Film screenings build social consciousness, and heritage photowalks inspire appreciation for culture and history. Event coverage enhances adaptability and professionalism, preparing students for real-world challenges. Competitions and workshops encourage innovation and provide recognition, helping members develop strong portfolios. More than just a society, Dastaan is a supportive community where every story, skill, and perspective finds space to grow, creating opportunities for the future.
